Would the use of a heavy hardwood have any negative attributes or drawbacks in the construction of the super v side panels and baffle?  Would it be to resonant as compared to mdf or hdf?  What is the maximum thickness the side panels should be?  contemplating something like a dense rosewood....or not sure just a brainstorm at the moment.

If using solid hardwood, you'll need to account for wood movement when attaching the side panels.

mpauly, thanks for the input.

After further research I have nix'd the solid wood construction and "wood" instead go with veneering.  Couple of new considerations though, 1)MDF vs. HDF vs. Baltic Burch Ply? 2)any draw backs or advantages to using 1" or "wood" this be a waste with the super v open baffle design?

anyone?

The pair that I have hear are using 1.25" MDF. I prefer it in this application.

Excellent, okay so the sides of your cabinet are 1.25" mdf(two 5/8's glued together or  a single thickness 1.25" mdf?  Based on the plans posted it would appear that the construction is based on 3/4" mdf throughout and doubled up on the upper baffle?  If im looking at the correct plans.

All the plans show common and easily acquired 3/4" MDF. But the sides on mine are 1.25" solid MDF.

thanks,  where did you get your 1.25 mdf?   Im in San Antonio and have not seen it a the local Lowes and Home D.  Also, do you know of any super v owners in the Austin/San Antonio area?  Do you have any pics to post of your current super v's?

thanks

I've made my own by laminating 3/4" and 1/2" mdf.  Just don't skimp on the glue and clamps.

The guy that built these enclosures obtained it. Larger thicknesses have to be ordered from a wood specialty shop.

Here are pics of my current pair:
