Gratuitous Self-Promotion

It might not make any sense to post this here, but then again it doesn't cost me anything, so hooray! :P

The show will be up until Easter.

Nathan,

Congrats on the upcoming show.

How can people purchase your artwork or photos?

I know I asked this of you a while back, but I can't remember now and there could be more people who are interested in putting a "Marciniak" on their wall.

I'd come and check it out Nathan but Wisconsin is a long drive.

Thanks everyone!  I hope it will get some traffic this time.  It sucks having it in winter, though. Oh well.  Luckily this time I don't have to worry about display and lighting!

The most direct way is just to e-mail me.  If there's anything you want I'll make it.  I also have an Etsy page with specific items for sale.  Not much there at the moment, though. I will probably just make a for sale page on my website after the show is over.  I can make prints on-demand from digital files, but this show will also feature at least ten new, one-of-a-kind, original paintings.

In a sane world, I'd have ONE site, but instead, there's four. Listed in order of update frequency:

The gallery owner asked us to make an "artist's statement"  Ooooh, ahhh...  Although I thought it would be fun to ramp up the extra flowery prose, you start running into the hard-to-satirize area there.  So I decided a honest bias would be better.

NATHAN MARCINIAK
ARTIST STATEMENT

Art is about making the images I want to see even before I know what they are.  Sometimes I see things I cannot make.  Sometimes I make things I did not see.  Usually I make things other people wished they hadn’t seen.  No matter what happens I have complete freedom in the process.

This freedom rarely exists in the outside world, it exists in the internal world of the mind.  Art allows me to show a picture of this internal world, which cannot otherwise be shared directly by other people.  If I’m lucky, others may also like what I see.  If not, a continuous stream of Pro-Nathan Marciniak propaganda will be employed to correct any errors in your opinions about art.

As far as drawing and painting goes, I approach it with a technical bias.  I rarely start with a conscious theme, message or idea, it’s usually more about the tools and technique involved and just making a doodle.  Sometimes they turn out good.  The stuff I end up liking is usually a pleasant surprise because I am never quite sure what’s going to happen.  It’s these qualities of randomness, trial and error and lucky accidents which cut short my former career as an anesthesiologist.

For photography, when I see a certain aesthetic that I like I try to go after that look as best as I can.  I did not take pictures for many years, perhaps due to my daily involvement in computer graphics.  Then I ended up getting into large format cameras and film but stopped short of silver printing.  I was inspired by my grandmother’s old photos as well as 19th century photography in a most general sense.  Film capture, digital scanning, Photoshop and Inkjet output allows me to get the look I want.  Unfortunately it’s a look which nobody else wants; but I don’t know any cowboys, beautiful nude women or cute dogs, so I have to make do with what’s available.

Hey, is this for real?  I'd love to check it out and Milwaukee is not a bad road trip from Chicago.  You are a true original and I hope everything goes well!  Why not put everything on one site?  Just asking!

Cheers,

Jack

Yep, it's very real!  I just delivered most of the work to the gallery yesterday in fact.  Gallery Night is a big event where all sorts of businesses and art galleries in the area have an open house, so you'd have a whole ton of things to see.  My show opens on the 15th and 16th, but it will remain up until Easter.

This Flickr set has almost everything that's there:

Hey man some nice art there. Wonderfull use of color and style. You should do well. similiar to Max but refreshingly new. As an Architect your attention to detail and use of color is as well refreshing.
Again, the best of luck with the show.

I am happy to report that Nathan has two less pieces that he can display at the show.  Both pieces safely arrived today and look great in person.  Now my wife and I just have to figure out where we want to display our Marciniak originals.   :green:
