Why I resigned as Facilitator
« on: 26 Dec 2009, 03:46 pm »
Now that I am less cranky I thought I should explain the reason behind my resignation:

The reason is that I felt the site's process of resolving problems with controversial threads left me powerless to do a good job - I felt left out of the loop.

I did not resign as a direct result of the posting or deletion of messages  from the controversial 7BSST thread. I'm not protesting the site administrators editing of the thread.

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve,

Yes thanks for the explanation.

I think the site administrators of AudioCircle see it as a more benign exchange of ideas rather than a forum for discourse between those parties involved. There is certainly a place for differing opinions but I do not think they feel AudioCircle was designed for that purpose and will restrict and pull any correspondence that violates that rule. Also Bryston does ‘NOT’ have any say over what gets omitted.

The manufacturers forums I think are seen by most to be just an extension of the manufacturers website rather than an open forum for discussion. Just to set the record straight I got involved in this forum because you (jethro) asked me to and I hoped it would evolve into a place when I could answer questions about Bryston/PMC and be constructive in offering solutions or guidance to our customers.  It has obviously evolved into something much more than I originally thought but all in all I felt it became a good resource for anyone looking for direction and knowledge about audio and Bryston and PMC in particular.

By the way there have been postings in other forums that the manufacture ‘pays’ for a spot on this sight. I can not speak for others but Bryston has never contributed a penny to the operation of AudioCircle – in fact I feel badly about that because I truly value AudioCircle as a tremendous resource for our company and my personal audio hobby. I would truly hate to see it disappear.

Anyway Steve, I want to thank you publicly for your dedication to this site over these many years and your insistence that I get involved!

James

Maybe a Bryston Club thread instead. Certainly plenty of happy Bryston owners. Hey remember my enthusiasm about TVCs ? When I got that thing up and running I was so impressed I could not ontrol my writing, even went to Malaysia and made an offer to buy in.
So one can at least understand the excitement of ownership. The tough part is being in a public forum. Hey I've posted here several times and felt no one was listening or cared about my comments as a outsider.
A manf thread is a blessing to have around. Informative as to the product and fun reading what applications of such are about. Blatant attacks are just that and should be monitored and removed to another location. Unfortunately its a fine line to walk and sometimes feel limited in my responses because of that.  It's the judement of such that appears to be the issue as some are offended and have to support their buying decision.
So, hoping the thread remains and we all toughen our skin a bit, we ALL can get along.
Jethro thank you for your time and effort. James thank you for a fine product line to consider.

Thank you for your time and effort.  I know what you go through.  I've been an administrator on a home theater site for many years and the site has gone through a few ownership changes.  I've almost resigned doing that a few times.  In one instance, I was basically doing everything for the site and not even getting answers to E-Mails or PMs to the owner.  In another instance I found out (via my own internet search) ownership had changed over a year ago.  We had a small group of active members so I kept it up for them.  The new owner seems more interested and responsive.  It is a thankless job, especially when you get grief trying to do it right.

I too would hate to see the Bryston circle disappear, I have learned a lot and did not know very much about Bryston before joining AC.

Please correct me if I am wrong but the Bryston Circle is listed under Owners Circles where I assume each circle is conceived and run by enthusiasts. I think the timing is perfect for Bryston to have a spot in the Audio Manufacturers Circle, I think that circle is where money gets involved.
