Experience Hendrix, any one going?
« on: 26 Dec 2009, 07:22 am »
I was really excited when I heard the commercial that some of today's greatest guitar slingers were touring a tribute to Jimi Hendrix.  Joe Satriani, Kenny Wayne Shepperd, Johnny Lang, Eric Johnson and others.  I knew this would be something to see.  When I went to purchase tickets my bubble was burst, nose bleed section $93.00 per, best seat available at the time $484.00.  Not many would I sit in the nose bleed section for and certainly not at $93.00, nor am I about to shell out $484.00 or even $384.00 for a concert ticket.  Any one Going to do it?

Prices quoted were on the website for St. Louis.  Not sure what prices for other cities are.

Thanks, not sure what those numbers I originally saw were, it was from a different website, it was the same show though at the Fox.  Good list of the players too.  I really like Ernie Isley.

No way,the Hendrix family has been exploiting his name since they won the rights to his name.

Exploitation of the deceased artists is a bad practice no matter who it is.  In most cases if they wanted that so called "lost" material released it would have already been released.  It was not for a reason, the artist thought it was not worthy and most of the time it isn't.

But consider all the tribute bands that are around and many of them are for bands that have members still alive like Pink Floyd and Zepplin.  The tribute bands are a bit out of control as well though.  Some of the old bands are almost a tribute to themselves with the lack of original members.

The reason I'd like to see the Experience Hendrix show is due to the incredible amount of talent that will be doing it.

Any one have the Tribute to Hendrix CD that came out in the 90's that featured various artists like Clapton, Jeff Beck, Slash and even some not so traditional renditions by people like PM Dawn?  I don't know if Hendrix family was behind that but it is a good album.  Clapton's version of Stone Free is excellent with some very tasty guitar work.

As one who is old enough to have heard a Hendrix concert when I was 16 I can readily tell you that the only person who came close to his style that I am aware of was Stevie Ray Vaughn. IMHO there are no replacements for either Hendrix or Mitch Mitchell or Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Sigh;

I was 3 months shy of turning 16 when I saw Jimi Hendrix at the Music Hall in Cleveland, Ohio.  His guitar playing was inspired.  With good vocals and original tunes, he was the complete package.

Several months later that year (1968), I saw Cream (Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker) at the same venue.  Another concert I won't forget.

Good times.
