Original Bryston 6B's serial numbers 1 and 8
« on: 23 Dec 2009, 02:18 am »
Hi, Rob from Musical integrity here in Winnipeg. I Picked up a pair of bryston 6B monoblocks, sn's 600001 and 600008. ( #1 and #8 of production )

They are in great shape cosmetically, but are in sad shape on the inside.

I am a 23 year audio tech who successfully trades on e-bay, and am looking for any info on these monsters. I was told to use the 4b schematic as a guideline but am looking for something a little more specific.

Any help is truly appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

Thankyou Mr.Tanner. I already spoke to Mike, who was a real help on the phone with what to replace. Looks like the poor beasties need everything. The power supply caps are shot, It has shorted output transistors, and of course, the usual age related things that aren't dead yet...but soon. They will be gone through very thoroughly. Is there any literature I could still get on these units?. These seem to be the proverbial " white elephant". Did any magazine ever do a review?...thanks for any info in advance.... Rob

Hi Rob,

The 6B mono was the beginning of the 7B and we soon changed the name to 7B in later models.  If memory serves me we made about 30 of them and I have only seen about 3 pairs since. They were rated at 500 watts per channel 8 ohms.  I do not have any literature - sorry.

Hi Rob,

Found this:

Bryston 6B, basic Mono power amplifier, rated distortion less than .02% I.M., rated power 500 watts 8 ohms,800 watts 4 ohms. 19""x5.25"x13.5", 50 lbs. This amplifier consists of two amplifier modules which are combined into either BRIDGED or PARALLELED modes in a 4B sized chassis to form a single high power amplifier to drive very low impedance loads.
