Outriggers for Lorelei - Awesome Tweak
« on: 12 Dec 2009, 07:58 am »
I have owned my Lorelei's for several years now.  A few months ago I saw this picture and I knew I had to have these outriggers:

Well I finally ordered them and installed them tonight.  What a great tweak for these speakers.  It's like the speakers have disappeared.  Bass has tightened up considerably!!!!!  Articulation and seperation of instruments is better.  I'm not sure there is an area that has not been improved with these things.

On a pratical side, I am just terrified to have people in my house for fear that these speakers would get bumped and topple over.  I am no longer worried.  These babies are incredibly stable now.  Aesthetically, I find them to give the speakers a more intersting, substantial and balanced look.

They were easy to install (30 minutes) and balance.

This is one of those win-win-win tweaks!!!

As always, YMMV, but this is a very fuel efficient tweak for me!!!!

I have mine sitting on Systrum platforms...(got the idea from Satfrat) - I agree it is definitely a worthwile improvement for anyone owning Lorelei speakers...Klaus realizes this too with the design of the Kismet upgraded Loreleis on  platforms now   :P

Hey, those Outriggers look a hell of a lot stabler than my Sistrum Platforms are, I'm glad they're working for you.  :thumb:

From what I see, the Kismet Lorelei sits on a flat platform and that alone imho doesn't offer the isolation performance of Sistrum Platforms or the Outriggers. Installing some Audiopoints on that platform or using Sistrum Platforms / Outriggers would be a huge plus tho.  8)

I beleive Klaus has the base of the kismets on spikes which as far as I could tell at RMAF provided the same isolation as an outrigger.- My point is Klaus realized the benefit of putting the Loreleis on a stand which is why he designed the Kismets that way.  :o

I'm impressed that the installation of the outriggers took you only 30 minutes. How did you decide where to drill the mounting holes? Did Soundocity provide a template? Did Klaus help you?

I probably just got lucky.  I didn't overthink this at all since it had already been done by someone else on these same speakers and the instructions on the Soundocity website are well done.   I simply lined up the edge of the front outrigger with the front of the speaker base and did the same for the rear.  There is a channel in the outrigger where the bolt goes through so I measured 3/4" in and made a mark in the center of that channel.  I drilled the holes using three different bits, basically pre-drilling twice before I got to the correct size.  You only need to go .65" and I'm pretty sure the bases are thicker than that.

Anyway, bada bing bada boom...done!!!!

Those look great. I used a set on  my Meadowlark Audio Kestrel IIs. So much better than the supplied plinths.
Your pics may end up on the Soundocity web site, mine did. I think they are still there.
