Well, seems Avalon been released here.

Somehow I missed it's release here. Probably because I got a box set copy from Japan quite some time ago and didn't need a US version.

Well, I've mentioned it before, and I'll mention it again. It's more than worth watching (hell, I dropped $150 on my copy... ). And now that it's available here, it should be checked out.

If this can be done for $8mil (it certainly doesn't look like it's that low budget), it makes you wonder why in the hell Hollywood movies cost so damn much.

This movie is impressive on it's own, but it's even more so when you think about what it cost to produce. Kinda like El Mariachi. It's a damn good movie on it's own. But once you learn that it was done for $7,000, it's an even more impressive picture...

I was supposed to try to get an SVCD copy for bob (sorry 'bout that) but haven't talked to the guy that could do it for quite some time. No need for such things now.

Cool :thumb:

I need to find a better video store, I asked today about Underworld and they'd never heard of it. Who knows, maybe it wasn't released here :(

Well, looks like both Avalon & Underworld might not be out in your area John.

I checked the biggest DVD store I'm aware of in Australia http://www.ezydvd.com.au and they have no mention of either film.

They're not out in the UK either. And they seem to get the same movies as you do at about the same time. Though Underworld is supposed to hit the UK a month from today. Maybe it won't be too far off for you as well.

Is there no video store in your area with Region 1 import discs?

Don't know, I guess I should find out! I've been meaning to look into unlocking my player, supposedly the codes are on line. Not sure if it'll convert NTSC tho.

Guess I get spoiled by the local shop that's got about 60,000 different movies with imports from everywhere and forget that such a thing is unusual...

Do you not have a multi-system display? I'm not terribly familiar with Australian electronics. But was under the impression that you pretty much get the same gear that the UK does. And virtually all (or all?) sets there are multi-system if I recall properly.

Bubba,

Thanks for the tip.  I've never heard of this film (until now), so I've added it to my Netflix queue.

For those who have sucky video stores, I highly recommend Netflix.  Extreme selection and a good value if you watch at least 5 movies per month.  They have almost everything.

Hi JohnR, I have gotten quite good at finding region unlock codes for DVDP. What model do you have?

You have to be aware that not all players can be unlocked with a regular remote. Some require a special/hacked/engineer remote. Others can't really be hacked at all and require hardware mods or a firmware reload.

On the PAL/NTSC thing: In my experience, most DVDP will output the correct format for what you set it at. If not, your TV may be able to adjust to NTSC anyway.
