Inexpensive TT in St Louis area
« on: 28 Nov 2009, 07:06 pm »
Hey guys,

My daughter was just home for Thanksgiving and told me she has started buying some vinyl.

Unfortunately she has nothing to play them on. She is going to school at Mizzou. She will be driving through St. Louis in January coming back from Christmas break.

I was wondering if any of you had or could find an relatively inexpensive TT, I would compensate you for it and your time.

I noticed one in the St. Louis Craigslist in O'Fallon.

Do any of you live near there? Would you be willing to check it out for me?

Thanks,

Wayne

Wayne, I just emailed you about that Dual and my Sonographe.  Haven't heard back on the Dual yet.

Thanks Mark.

If anyone else in the area has any leads on a decent semi or full auto, 80's vintage TT, please let me know.

Thanks for the offer.

I'll keep my eyes open for any deals. I would appreciate it if the GAS guys could keep me informed if they find anything.

Lots of free beer for any of you if you make it out to CO.

Cheers,

The Dual 505-2 is still available, but I didn't think it was semi or fully automatic.  Do you want me to get this one for you?

Wayne,
My girlfriends brother lives out in that area and works in a music store. I will have her call him and see if they have anything or have some leads on a TT. Any certain brand or something that plays and is in decent shape? Price?

Thanks, Guys.

Blackmore is checking on the DUAL 505 I saw on Craigslist. He has been in touch with the seller. While he is very busy with concerts, he has kindly offered to go check that one out.

I am looking for an auto or semi-auto from the 80's. Something like the DUAL 505, 601, Pioneer, Technics, B&O, Thorens, etc. I really would like to keep the total price under $75.00, if possible. This is not something for serious listening. Currently my daughter has ONE album. I am sure if she has a TT she may be tempted to get some more.

JuanR,

Thanks for the offer. I would prefer to avoid shipping TTs. Too much can happen to them. My daughter has no idea how to set one up. As she is 750 miles away from me, I would prefer to find one near her in MO that is working and ready to go.

I have a couple of B&O RX2s that would fit that price range. Also a Dual 1249 that I would part with. Let me know

The Dual 505 had auto arm lift at the end of the side. If I recall correctly, the motor shut off after the arm was lifted. The 505 did not have auto return.

The Ortofon OM series cartridges are a perfect match for the low mass Dual arm, and were available installed from Dual at an extra charge.

The 505 is tough to beat for the $.

Thanks for the offer no1maestro.

I believe that Mark Blackmore has been in touch with the seller of the DUAL 505. If it meets his approval, that is the one my daughter will receive. If there is anything not quite right with the deal, I'll get back to you about the tables you have available.

Mark picked up the TT and seems to like it. :thumb:

Thanks for all the offers of help. At some time, I may actually make it back out to St Louis. Not in the summer, though.
