gain of BP-26?
« on: 22 Nov 2009, 12:13 am »
I know the maximum output of the BP-26 is specified as 30 V balanced and 15 V single-ended, but can anyone tell me how this converts into gain in dB?

Thx,

Joel.

Just in case you need extra gain, from a Pioneer Blu-Ray players audio output fx., these are 0,2 volts, or even as a step-up transformer for mc cartridges, try Xindaks tiny rca transformers. These you just put in the rca input where you want your gain, and plugg in the rca cable from your source.

James,

I never saw that this question was answered.  From the manual, the sensitivity is 0.5v single ended for 15v out, 1.0v balanced for 30v out, so this computes to about 29.5db for both SE and Balanced, which is a ton of gain.  Is this correct per Bryston spec?  I could probably measure it myself but would rather not pull things apart and do all the needed setup.

I have BDA1 -> BP26/MPS2 -> Atma-Sphere M60 monoblocks -> Geddes Abbeys (95db efficiency) and the gain is simply too high.  I think the amps are about 26db via balanced in.  I also have subs driven single ended out of the other BP26 outputs, which need to be leveled for the efficiency differences as well as between SE gain and Balanced gain in use on the mains.

Without resorting to some sort of kludged up pads is there an internal setting or option in the BP26 to reduce it?

Hi,

You can drop the BDA-1 output by

1, 2 or 3 dB with the BR2 remote.

Code 250,251,252.

Press "CODE" on the BR2 remote so the red LED lights, then he above codes for the drop.

DO NOT press and hold "code", thats for other uses.

OR - the other way to reduce gain is turn it down  :eyebrows:

Andy.

3db is not much difference when the gain is almost 30.

I am just working with a teeny bit of the volume control.  Fortunately the BP26 and my amps are so quiet that doesn't matter from that standpoint.

Hi Tom,

The gain in the BP26 is 10.5dB unbalanced and 16 dB balanced.  We can reduce it by 6dB if required.

I guess my calcs don't make sense   I guess I was using the max output for input sensitivity

I changed amps so went from 10db single ended into a FirstWatt F5 at 15db or 25db total to 16db balanced plus Atma-Sphere at 26db or so at 42db+.

Is the 6db reduction factory/service center only?
