Ripping DVDs
« on: 17 Nov 2009, 05:21 pm »
Can anyone give me some pointers about ripping DVDs?  I would also like to convert to iPod format, if possible (although this will be very infrequent).  My main goal is to rip a lot of DVDs so that I can select a DVD from a list and begin watching the DVD, without all the crappy menus.

I also plan on buying something like the WD TV Live (a streamer) to be able to access the DVDs.  Is this a suitable device for this access?

Thanks.

dvd shrink.
then something to compress them into h264 would be a good idea.

Depending on the final format desired and the level of encryption, BluRay notwithstanding, I may use a combo of DVDShrink, DVD Decrypter, DVD Lab, Nero, and some others.  I made some snazzy combo demo movies with movie clips and PowerPoint slides all with music layered on top - but all non-HD.

Thanks for the help.  I'll read that article, but is there also some help with the acronyms in this area?  I read a forum for the WD TV Live media streamer, and there are acronyms galore.  An acronym and extension decoder would be helpful to decipher what the heck these people are saying.
