Home Made Amp Photos-Post them here!
« on: 8 Nov 2009, 01:11 pm »
I always liked the vintage car shows. What about a home made amp show? This seems like a great place to display your creations and talk about them. I make amps for myself when time permits. Here's a photo of one:

I like the variable input voltage control on the power transformer (metal knob on front of transformer). This is one of  my personal amps. The wattage is only around 8 watts/channel MAX. I didn't want to stress anything since it's a well seasoned senior citizen. Original tube compliment was 2A3's according to the available filament voltage. It's using 807's now.

Nobody has a home brew amp to talk about or display? I thought there were allot of DIY'ers on here. What about preamps?

I built a pair of the Transcendent SC-150's some years ago. I bought the chassis from Bruce after he had stopped making the amps. All the internals are point to point, no pcb.

I built a tiny little pre, originally as a clone of a Decware ZSLA but earlier this year designed a new circuit as I decided I wanted/needed some gain and so it looks the same but now sports a 6GU7, still a single tube for two channels. It sits on my desk at work and I'm very happy with it.

Somewhere I have pictures of my main preamp. I'll post one if I can find them.

Wow!  Those are cool, both Blair and Mike.

While I haven't truly made a homemade amp I did remake these:

It took me about three months with all the painting.

Didn't know they made resistors in Barbados! Nice work.

RH84 monobloks... these have held their own against much pricier kit.

There was something like 7 distinct iterations to get to this amp... here is one of the earlier chassis where junk box parts replaced the major iron stripped out of it. A real international here, Grundig trafo, Hammond choke, Magnavox OPTs.

Total cash investment in both amps <$200, so these are serious frugal-phile(tm) kit :)

I don't see any electrolytics in there- am I right?  :D

All Solen power supply filter caps (makes such a serious difference every amp since does too). 2 elco bypasses.

Hi
This is my pre-amp ,the first thing I've ever built from scratch . 6H30PI valves line output transformer based ,.Its a circuit drawn up by a friend .He also make's OPT's ,power tranformer's & choke's .
Pre amp stage ,the 600ohm OPT are wound to suit the 6H30PI ,no caps or resistor's in the signal path

Dual power supply's using 5V4 rectifier's .

Veiw of the back

Experimenting with different by-pass caps on the cathode ,set up on a 3 way switch.

Cheers

 :notworthy:

That FVP and Transcendent OTL are EXCELLENT choices. Beautiful work. Who needs to purchase retail when you've got mirror finished monoblocks such as yours???   :duh:

Some of my handy work.
A dual mono 6550 SE integrated using a Mullard  ECC34 / 6H30p-DR driver stage.
A pair of Dual mono SETS, a DC 437a driver / EML 320BXLS power tube
and a Pete Millet inspired Low-Mu preamp converted to dual mono rectification.
