These guys just keep dropping their prices. I get their newsletter every week and I'm just passing it along. If you want a home theater setup for < $1K and are thinking even remotely about Best Buy stuff or Bo$e crap, you need to check this out first.

Just add a sub or two and you are good to go.

Sounds like a disaster.  Might work for someone though, who knows?  -Well maybe its not as bad as it seems, I guess that "monitor" is for surround?

I was seriously considering this for my new HT setup, until I saw that spec.. I'd be buying it more for the small speakers since towers won't work in my new setup. Oh well, I'll think I'll keep looking.

I had a set of the ELT monitors, and, for the price, I thought they sounded quite nice, with superb build quality. I was using a Denon mini-receiver with 40 watts into 6ohm, and it powered them just fine.

True, these aren't efficient, but that's part of the penalty for a small speaker. If you check out the well-regarded offerings from ERA Design, you'll see much the same efficiency specs, with efficiency shrinking with the speakers down the line.

Really don't see this as all that much of an issue - the system would seem to be designed for a small HT, probably driven by an average HT AVR, which shouldn't have any problem driving these to reasonable levels. If you're looking for really high SPL's, you're probably not looking at small scale speakers like these.

Probably, not the best choice for a flea powered SET tube amp, but I don't think that's the market they're going after.

Well, I consider sensitivity a highly important attribute of a loudspeaker.  I used to think it was just a number, and enough watts would make it irrelevant. Now I think 86db is about as low as anyone should consider passable, and my advice is to look for 90+.

My comments were not about "really high SPL". You would most likely notice constrained dynamics, and thermal limiting, in even a small HT setup with these.   -It isn't about fleapowered amps either.  But yeah they are pretty for that price.

You have to take into consideration the price. You and I both know this a'int no Earl Geddes inspired loudspeaker. If you've heard a system like his, you will not be even looking in the price league of these ELT monitors. More like LS9's if you know what I mean.

Different strokes for completely and utterly different folks. The different folk here is the fella who would be at Best Buy or Circuit City trying to mass a system for under $1000. He is going to have to accept the restricted dynamics etc...unless he wants to go DIY with some Hawthornes or something.

There are still fellas listening to their Apogees, etc...they like their music at 80dB max and that's fine. More power to them. I wouldn't do that for home theater or music. But that's what makes us different, and I certainly embrace that.

I've heard the ELT monitors on both a TCA 25 watt Gizmo and a modded Trends T amp.  Obviously wouldn't fill up a large room, but would work very well for a bedroom or a computer system.  Haven't heard the tower versions, but should be fine in a small to moderate sized living room, especially w/ a sub.

I've read more than a few user comments that suggest the ELTs strength is not HT, especially the center speaker for dialogue.  Seems like the WAF-1 from Tweak City Audio is getting more love for HT application.  I think they are selling 5 of those speakers for $499 delivered and a 30 day trial with return shipping covered.  I've never heard either speaker, just spend too much time on audio forums.
