Sunday Project, AV-1RS
« on: 3 Nov 2009, 01:30 am »
It took most of my Sunday building a pair of AV-1RS on wall surounds for a friend.  They will get painted this week then ready to install the drivers.  Bad part is his new house isn't finished yet so we wont get to hear them till after the first of the year.

I'm thinking that's gonna be my next build.

Nice job!

Finally got my friends AV-R1S surrounds hanging on the walls, they are painted the same color as the walls so they blend in really well.

I plan to paint mine the same color as the wall as well to make them invisible and unobtrusive.  How did he hang them on the wall?  The schematics don't make sense to me in this regard.

There is a section on the back of the speaker that has a steep angle on the edge and a mating angle on another board that gets screwed to the wall.  The two angled boards work like a hanger for the speaker.

I like! :) Even though I'd paint them to match the crown molding.

So that's how it works  :duh:

Would the board with the mating angle be strong enough to hold the speaker if the section of the wall it's going to be screwed to has no stud?  Also, if these were to go on the rear wall directly behind the listener, should the tweeter be facing inside or outside?

I mounted these with the tweeter to the outside, but it's easy to swap them if you want.  I'm not so sure about mounting them without a stud behind them.  Perhaps Danny could give us some info on that.

The MDF mounted strip that the speaker fits onto is as long as the speaker. Most people can then hit one stud somewhere along that length. You can then use a sheet rock anchor screw on it in other areas.

SL-1800 ... trust you'll enjoy these a lot.  I've got four, and they're terrific.
