Bang and Olufsen turntable questions
« on: 2 Nov 2009, 03:26 am »
I bought a B&O Beogram RX turntable for 15 bucks at sale. I plays on one channel and very very low on the other. First question, could the cartridge be bad? I tested it with a ohm meter and it comes in at 47k on both channels. I took the bottom off of it and cleaned a switch that hooks between the fine wires from the tonearm and the cable that goes to the receiver. Second question, is it worth spending money on a cartridge? I found one on the net for a 150 bucks. It is new aftermarket one as B&O dont make these anymore. Any ideas what else it could be before spending money on it?

Paul,
Soundsmith was the site that I found that has the cartridge. I tried the one channel dead instructions and according to it the cartridge is suppose to be bad. I plugged it back in and cued up a fine piece of vinyl and it played out of both channels for a few minutes and the same channel went dead again. So I fiddled with the plugs on the back of the receiver and it came back on. The RCA end had a bend prong on the outside and I straightened it out and I think that might be the culprit. I will replace both of them and give it a good listen to. What little it played tonight it sounds wonderful. Maybe I can get a new cartridge for it in the near future. Thanks
