Sansui Au-G99x or Marantz 2230 for 2-channel audio?
« on: 30 Oct 2009, 11:56 am »
I do not have any experience with vintage gear. These two amps are different power but I believe the lesser power Marantz likely has enough for the pair of HED 1230's (Cerwin-Vega) I just purchased. I was just wondering which might have better sound and/or build? (Marantz $110; Sansui $75 but comes with A-700 Tuner and deck, neither of which I really need.)

I have a few Marantz receivers and I like them, They are what they are, old receivers built in the 70's. The 2230 would have 30 watts RMS per channel (and those are real watts) and would probably drive the CVs fairly well as they are usually very efficient. Don't know much about Sansui, but I won't knock them either. I have a 1530 that you can have for about $40, but a meter on the FM (tuning) doesn't work, However, the signal strength meter does work and that is all you need to tune in FM on these anyway. It's in great shape if interested. I also have a very mint 2220B and a gigantic 2385 with 185 watts (RMS) per channel and only weighs 57 pounds.

Hey, I started out with a 2230. My first receiver. Fond memories.
