MEMO: To all Bryston Customers
SUBJECT: Audio Express Review of Bryston CD Player

Please see below some highlights of the Bryston BCD-1 CD Player review in the 2009 November Issue of the Audio Express Magazines. I will be getting PDF's of the full review a soon as possible.

http://www.audioxpress.com/magsdirx/ax/index.htm

Listening:

I have written about several CD players auditioned in my system, including some in the $3,000+ price range.  None of these sounded consistently better than my older Sony, and some were not as good.  Generally the sound of my best records was a little better than any of my CD collection- that is, until the Bryston BCD-1 arrived.  Its reproduction of music through my system exceeds the performance of any other CD player I have ever heard.

For the first time, CDs sound as good or better than records of the same music.  With a well-recorded CD the BCD-1 provides a three-dimensional soundstage as well as a correct and consistent CD playback.

2010 Juno Selection Committee

Well folks I've been advised tonight of what I think is a terrific honour for Bryston.

In Canada we have what is referred to as the  "Juno Awards".  These awards honour the best and the finest achievements in the music industry in Canada

They are in the final stages of choosing the Juno awards for

Producer of the Year
               &
Engineer of the Year.

The top recording engineers meet in a reference recording studio in an undisclosed location and through a weekend long listening session choose the best of the best.

They have ask to use a Bryston BCD-1 CD Player to assess who the winners will be!

Wow!! that's really interesting when you think about it. There is more there than just saying it's a great sounding deck. Did they say why or how they came about this?

Hi James, Hi all...

I'm getting a Mark Levinson No 380S to make a "good use" of my lovely BCD-1 (my Lex MC12 is for HT only i find).
Hope to get great results in 2ch !  8)

I'm also getting Voice and Embrace speakers to go with my Studio and sub30 Revel Ultima system...
Should get a powerfull HT with all that !

Still wonderfully pleased with my 4BSST2 and 9BSST2 amps...  :thumb:

Went to a dealer in Kitchener looking at speakers for a second system and listened to a pair of Paradigm Studio 100's on three different systems;
Yamaha integrated amp and CDP, Pioneer Elite BD to an Anthem D2 and Bryston 4B BP-25 and BCD-1.

Huge differences between these 3 systems with the Bryston being in a league of its own.
The Bryston was so much clearer and more real than the others that I checked to make sure they did not switch to the Paradigm Signature speakers by mistake.

I am currently using an SP1.7 as a DAC for 2-channel listening.  Has anyone compared the BDA-1 or BCD-1 to the SP1.7 for redbook audio?

I originally bought the SP1.7 over the other processors because it was better on 2-channel material but if there is a significant impovement I will have to add a BDA-1 to my list to Santa.

James, this may be a question for the SP3 thread but have you had a chance to compare the SP3 to the BDA-1?

Jeff

Hi Jeff - yes I have and as good as the SP3 is it is still better to go with a BDA-1 as it is dedicated and optimized for 2-channel PCM playback.

Hi All,

Got this from the Juno Selection Committee

Bryston BCD-1 @ Junos selection

Hi James

The BCD-1 CD Player was most impressive, especially the bottom  and top end. Everyone remarked on the very even presentation of the sound and the lower octave accuracy.

We had to listen to 211 CD's submissions, two songs each, from classical , jazz , rock , roots, punk, hip hop, so we gave it a good work out.

We picked one CD and compared it against the Pro Tools HD at the Studio and by all accounts the BCD-1 CD Player was superior.
