BPT 3.5 Signature- Incredible!
« on: 8 Jan 2004, 09:27 pm »
:thumb: I just installed a BPT 3.5 Signature in my system and the results are amazing!  I was previously using PS Audio P300 and P600 both with Multiwave II and the BPT easily beats them.  I have also tried a Shunyata Hydra-8 and it also is not in the same league as the 3.5.

Music just flows from my system with a naturalness and ease that was not present before.  Everything just sounds "right" without getting into a lot of meaningless adjectives. I was listening to Eva Cassidy- God rest her soul- last night and had goosebumps all over.  Her voice was amazing with the BPT in my system.

I even have my big Pass X350 plugged into it with no problems.  There is a slight hum from the BPT if I put my ear right up to the faceplate- that's it- otherwise it is dead quiet and runs cool to the touch unlike the PS Audio units.  I'm not sure you can make a transformer that big without a slight, and I mean ever so slight hum to it. I'll try to put a picture up in the gallery section.

Build quality is very good and the machined faceplate makes the unit really attractive.  You better have a good back before you try to move it- it is dead weight in a small chassis. Out of the 3.5 I feed a BPT CPC Signature Edition for my home theater gear and I am waiting to see the results on the video side of things.  I have always been a fan of "balanced" power , but the 3.5 has exceeded all of my expecatations in what a power conditioner can do for a system.

We need to get Chris away from Harmonic Discord and get him a circle over here.  I know has been real busy lately, but I think his addition to AC would be very special.  He is making state of the art products at what I consider a downright bargain compared to the competition.  Kudos to Chris at BPT for making one hell of a product :!:  :thumb:

Glad you like it.  Sounds like my PS Audio P1000 will be introduced to Audiogon.  It is the only "hot" component in my system, so my media room will be more comfortable come summertime.

Look forward to the pics.

Good choice of program material too.  Eva Cassidy was great, it's so tragic her career and life were so short.  We grew up in the same area.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the BPT Horsehead! I'm curious about more info about the BPT & Shunyata though. Were both units broken-in and powered up for a while, what power cables were used with each (and were these broken-in and warmed up), and how would you characterize each unit's sound? Thanks for any info you can provide!

Has anyone compared the BPT 3.5 Signature to the Eui=Tech 2Q?

Similarities?  Differences?  Which unit is better?

Thanks,

Lak

Cables used were the same when I had both the Hydra-8 and BPT.  Silent Source Signature HC 20amp from dedicated circuit (direct to panel with JPS LAbs In-all AC cable) to the power conditioner.  Kimber Cable PK10 Palladians were used on the source equipment.  I had the Hydra-8 for 30 days and the BPT 3.5 for 2 days.  The Hydra made an improvement, but not to the same degree as the BPT.  With the BPT, more details were present and at the same time vocals were less edgy and much more natural. Individual instruments became more definable within the soundstage and took on a more realistic presence rather than "blending" with the rest of the music.

Both made my system dead quiet with no hum, buzz, or hiss of any kind- absolute silence.  In terms of value, I feel the BPT is a bargain for what's inside.  The Hydra-8 for $2K seems a liitle overpriced for the technology used- that's just my opinion.  There is also no doubt that "balanced' power works on reducing AC noise.

I'm not sure on the video side of things, but I think it is having the same effect.  I just got an Ayre D-1X DVD player that is outputting only 480i to my projector until I get the SDI card for it.  I have always hated the picture my Sharp projector produced with a 480i signal and was prepared to be quite disappointed.  I'm not sure if it is the Ayre or the BPT, but I was shocked at how good the picture looked.  I think it is the BPT because I remember the improvements the PS Audio P600 made for video when I had it.  I sold it a while ago and was running without balanced power for a while.  I can't wait to try the Ayre with the SDI card and external scaler.

I have never tried any Equi-Tech products but they have a solid reputation for performance and build quality.  I think they are all UL approved, but lack the "custom" tweaks Chris uses in his products- Z Sleeve, ERS, etc.  The transformers are of a similar design and I have heard Chris pays a premium for the special transformers used in his conditioners.  The BPT has a nice 'high end' look to it with the machined faceplate while the Equi-Tech units are more businesslike.

For my system, the BPT has been a revelation and I think it is an outright bargain when you consider the performance, what's inside, build quality, and appearance. :D

I take it this is in regards to from the speakers, and not accounting for hum from the units. Did the Hydra-8 hum from the unit at all?

BPT 3.5 Ultra - Isolation? Upgraded FIM Outlets? Sig. Cord?
I am glad to hear that you like the BPT better than the Hydra 8.  I have been debating between the two.  I ordered the BPT 3.5 Ultra.   Have you found that isolation makes a difference?   Also, did you get the upgraded FIM outlets for the 3.5 (not the wall)?   I am also intrigued by the signature upgrade for the power cord.   Which cord are you using?  Thanks a lot  for the well written review.

HH,

Glad you finally got one.  Mine should arrive next week to replace my BP1.

I also tried the Hydra in my system, and it didn't seem to make much difference. (like it did in Mad Dog's)

The BP1 on the other hand, did, and I'm looking forward to seening what the 3.5 Signature will offer.

I have an older Toshiba RPTV and it really cleaned up the picture.  Better color (deeper, richer) and I can now actually "read" the credits (even the small print) at the end of a DVD!! :o

And while I thought the venetian blind and screen door effect was just part of the game, it is now gone!
