Considerably less than your willing to spend, but sound very good, and would leave money for other things.

Hi All,

Great suggestions yet so little time to audition.  I know for sure that I will not be able to audition all the speakers that everyone have suggested.  My choice of speakers would very much be out of convenience.  Convenience in the sense that loud speakers that are available here in New York that I was able to audition.   I am limiting my self with the opportunity to audition speakers by not using the trial period most A/V dealers give.  It's my fault by not going to the Electronic Show in Las Vegas.  The posts and suggestions here are ultimately helpful.  Hopefully, my choice would give me many years of enjoyment.

I will be making a decision soon.

Thanks,
Levi

Levi,

Though I am not unbiased (since I own them), I'd recommend hearing the Reference 3a MM De Capo I.  Extremely easy to drive and they sound great.  If you can't get a demo, you may hear them at my apt.  The Focus 688 is also a great speaker in your price range.

Hi Michael,

Thank you for the advice.  I am sure I will like the FS speaker line.  I got a Sonus Faber Grand Piano Home and a matching center channel for the price below my budget of $2,500-3,500.

I visited Ray (RaybeatAV.com) Friday and managed to audition NBS III speakers and the Amphion speakers.

So many speakers out there.  So little time.

If you're looking to go HT some time soon down the road (and apparently torn between standmounts and floorstanders anyway) I'd go for a pair of standmounts with a possible sub now.

I'm sure the above speakers are great, but you'll need something you can timber match when you pick up the rest of the speakers.

With a sub you can dial it in to match your room and taste.  Some the above floorstanding speakers may produce too much bass for a smaller room (now or in the future).  And a larger standmount, like a VMPS 626, can provide adequate bass for jazz and pop music while easily staying within your price range.  I've heard the 626s and they are wonderful and they have a matching sub.  Check out the VMPS forum here.  Big B is one of the good guys.  You'd be supporting a small American company that you can talk with (or at least e-mail) the owner.

Highly recommend JMlab Electra series. On the cover of Absolute Sound several months ago. I listened to them at one of my local audio shops and was smitten. I love my Norh Prisms and can recommend them especially if you are looking for something beautiful and unique to grace your living space. And the top of the line 6.9s come in way under your budget.
