I am going to cheat and name two songs and then some albums/artists because back then many albums were put together with less emphasis on selling single 99 cents mp3s (there weren't any of those damn things) and more emphasis on the album as a complete work of art. And those albums more than any single song shaped the next decade (or so) of my life musically.

You have to love some of the "be a man" lyrics: "I've gotta stand tall, you know a man can't crawl."Don't Worry Baby - Beach Boys To me, this is the quintessential Beach Boys -- simply beautiful singing about love and car racing. Solitary Man - Neal Diamond I hope I don't get laughed out of the room for admitting I like a Neal Diamond song. Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix I remember hearing Hey Joe on the radio and thinking I had never heard anything like it before, especially the guitar playing. And then I saw a picture of Jimi and I knew I had never seen anyone like that before! Still my favorite Hendrix song. Pancho and Lefty - Emmylou Harris I like everything she's ever done, but this is the best.
