Got it to work after an email back from Nuforce help desk.  Press and hold answer/call button for a few seconds until both the blue and orange LED flash, then connect with passkey 0000.
I must have just pressed long enough for the blue to flash.

Hi Woodsea,

I had the same problem but the email from Nuforce explained it a little better than the manual.  I'm pretty happy with the unit it.  It is better than sony bluetooth headset which came with my bluetooth mp3 player.

Good to hear Rod.  Do you have any problems with the audio cutting out periodically?  I am having that problem with my Blackberry, there is no pattern.  When I make a call it works great and the person on the other end say the sound is great.  I only have a problem when playing music

Hi Woodsea,

This appears to be an issue with bluetooth in general.  My sony headset cuts out occasionally as well as the nuforce bluetooth.

Alright! received the BT Sports Headset and immediately strapped them on and plugged them into my iPhone 3Gs for a test ride. Ok, Jason you were correct; can't compare them to the NE-7M's.........but they are ok for what I was planning to use them for, ie. bicycling, mowing, etc.

First, these are very comfortable, great fit and compact. The adjustable earphone posts just slide right into place when you put them on. I tried both earpiece seals and both work fine, could not distinguish any sound difference between the two.  Originally thought the in-the-ear-canal tips would isolate outside noise better. However the earphone housings are ported to the outside so not much difference was noted. As for fit while moving (head rotation) I noticed that with either ear tips they would work there way slightly out of position, but they did not fall out.

Sound quality was ok, not spectacular, but usable for casual listening. I will use my Nuforce NE-7M's for any serious music listening. What I noticed was a lack of mid and lower frequency range. Realy just a lack of balance between them and the higher frequences. I tried just about every EQ setting on my iPhone and just could not get a balance that satisfied me. What is evident is that there is a lot of punch in the upper frequencies, at higher volumes I would start to cringe due to the extreme brilliance in the sound.

I am not sure if the sound quality is the result of the iPhone's built-in BT transmitter/software or the design of the BT Sports. I have not used another paired stereo BT headset with the iPhone. The only other set of BT headphones I have used were a first design Logitech pair which used a dedicated BT transmitter that plugged into the headphone port. They sounded good but they were an on-the-ear design which had much more driver surface area.

So if NuForce is planning on making these in a regular production run I would recommend going to an on-the-ear design which would cover the whole ear with a much larger speaker diaphram that would produce much better low and midrange sound or improve the existing in-ear design to produce a more balance range of sound.

As a set of casual BT earphones these will do, but for a proposed $70 retail price I think they should offer more balanced sound. What's interesting is that I gave the BT Sports to a friend to play with and he thinks they are great with his iPhone, but he does not do as much listening to audio as I do and not through more high end earphones.

I do thank NuForce for the opportunity of testing the BT Sports Bluetooth Headset at the pilot production 50% discounted price and the opportunity to post my feedback on this forum. I do use several other NuForce products and I have been very pleased with their performance and value.

Regards,

Mike

I've had my BT Sports headset beta now for a few weeks.  Here's my quick review:

1.  Surprisingly lightweight and snug fit. Though first two runs through the hills of SF, I got ear fatigue on my left ear. Where the hook rests behind my ear.  Seems to have eased up / self adjusted since the break in phase.

2.  Ear fit.  I like the fact that they are NOT fully in-ear, that would not good for running through the City...need to be able to hear a tad of ambient noise around you. Nuforce executes very well here. Best feature.

3. Volume.  The volume steps go in nice tight increments up to about 70% loudness then there is an annoying jump from kinda loud to SUPER loud, in a noticeably bigger step up in volume than all previous step ups.  Nuforce should look at this. I think I notice one odd step up down at super low volumes as well.

4.  Bluetooth connectivity.  If I hold my iPhone in my right hand, I get no cut outs.  If I switch and hold my iphone in my left hand, I get lots of cut outs.  If I put the iphone behind my back, it almost always cuts out.  Must be due to the BT receiver/antenna in headset located on right side?  Range seems to be pretty decent if I put my iPhone on kitchen island I can roam around pretty well.  Surprised that it cuts out when putting it behind my back, after the kitchen test.

5.  The track fwd/back buttons don't work with iPhone's iPod player.

6.  Audio quality.  Decent audio quality for the price, not super rich or deep low end, nor a live performance-like soundstage, but very nice overall.  Depends on how far in the ear pieces get into your ear.  Again, for running I like the balance of mostly in-ear, but enough of an opening for a tad of ambient street noise so you don't get run over.

7.  Overall a very nice pair of stable, form fitting headphones for jogging that don't bounce around on my head, and don't feel heavy around my ears.  If Nuforce can work out a few of these bugs above, they'd be near perfect.

The marketing trial has ended so the link is gone.  We are considering making a small production but would like to address two things:
1) provide a softer ear tips
2) change the volume setting to 16 steps instead of 8.

We are also considering lowering the price to $49 (marketing trial customer can buy one production unit at 50% off)

Hi,

I was quite impressed by the quality of the nuforce bluetooth heatset.  I don't have a bluetooth mobile but I use a sony mp3 player with bluetooth capability.  The sound is at least as good as the sony bluetooth headset but is a lot more comfortable.

I think at the suggested retail price it is a great product.

Great news Jason. Keep us posted.  As a beta tester, I'd love to see the fixes go in to the trial product as you described, and come to market at this new more competitive price.  I would recommend the headset to many friends and colleagues thereafter.

I use my headset almost everyday.   I really enjoy them, except for a few missing words in conversation these work wonderfully.  Plus, after using them they fit better, or maybe I am more used to them.
I would buy again when available for the Mrs.

You should independently check the bluetooth headsets by testing it with your laptop or other devices.

The volume control has been increased to 16 steps and there are 3 different sets of ear tips. We improved the ear tips with softer silicone.

I had a set of the beta phones -- they sounded great during a short test run.  (they were a Christmas gift (in the stocking) and unfortunately, they got a bit too close to the fireplace and melted  ).

I have a set of the new "product"... not sure if they aren't broken in or if I am doing something wrong -- using them with an iPod Touch 2G... No connectivity problems, but this is audible hiss that I don't remember ... and the connection piece between the left and right ear-buds appears to be either shorter or stiffer (or both).

Hopefully the connector piece will loosen up a bit, but the hiss is a bit bothersome.

[Note:  Assuming that I can get back to the hiss-free sound that I had before, these are really nice headphones!]

Thoughts, ideas?

Thanks.

Scott B.

Hi Jason,

Is the 50% discount still going to be available for beta adopters of the BT headset?  If so how do we order?

The maximum output has been boosted by almost 6dB, so if you hear hiss, just drop the volume down 1 or 2 clicks.   We have compared the new vs. the old, and when the volume levels are matched, the noise behaviors are the same.
