Thanks for the heads up! :thumb: I ordered one too. It's a new release. Some of his earlier work when he was a sideman to other musicians.

Here's a link to a review/commentary.

Some time ago Best Buy made a pricing mistake on some CDs which was quickly rectified so it you want yours at this very low price act without delay.

Roy,
It was also posted on several "deals" web sites, and when that happens, stock all goes fast.
That is why I posted it last night.
I'm glad that we got in.  I ordered one for myself and another for my brother-in-law.
He will find it in his deluge of mail when he returns from Italy.  Perfect for his birthday.

Well...I just got an email from Best Buy stating that this special offer was a pricing error. So they take your credit card # then they say it's all a mistake. They canceled my order but still have the cc authorization.  This seems to be a fairly common occurrence. In the future if you see a price that is too good to be true...it probably is. I feel like blasting them on their forum but venting in that way is a waste of time when you're dealing with large corporations.

Lyndon... Did you get your box sets yet?

Thanks for the heads up Lyndon, just caught the thread. Sounds like a winner. Better late than never.  8)

funkmonkey

this reminds me of the extreme "deal" on the Transporter on black friday last year from Staples.  I think they had it listed at $299, but were able to back out saying they had the item pictured incorrectly or something...

I hope you guys get the deal.  It looks like a pretty sweet set.

Lyndon

Roy,
I just got it today, am home, mixing up some single malt scotch, and am about to give it a spin.
(Mixing, as in some ice and... :))
It is wonderful packaging, and the book is excellent with details.
Now let's see how this music stacks up.
And yes, I got both of my sets for the "special price".  It all boils down to how fast you get in before a lot of sales put up a red flag, and alerts someone.
I usually don't catch these sales because I can't view any of this while I am teaching, and it sells out way before I get home.
I just hope my brother-in-law received his, as he lives in Tribeca, and their mail slot is skinny.  This came in an odd mailer, fat, and with corrugated cardboard.

Surprised! :o :D

I just got the shipping statement for the boxed set. It's really odd... at Best Buy the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. I'll have to give them credit though, they made good on their deal. :thumb: How could I have ever doubted them?

The Coltrane boxed set is available through several Amazon retailers starting at $26.99. I buy virtually all my music this way.

My set arrived. :thumb: Very nice boxed set. Burning them in now.

Lyndon

Roy, LoneWolf,
Glad it worked out for you!
Yes, Atlplasma, I buy quite a bit from Amazon, as I have Prime.
But this was a sweet one from Best Buy.  My brother in law was very pleased with his boxed set for his birthday.  He said it was perfect this past weekend, while leaf peeping with my sister up north of the city. :D
Gosh, I miss the New England maples out here in Utah.  Lots of pines and furs.

Lyndon,

Did you check out the Fantasy sale at http://www.oldies.com/collection-view/Fantasy-Warehouse-Clearance-Sale.html ?
Lots of vintage jazz most $4.98/ea.

Oldies has some quirks and the cds are punched/cut but the disk itself is perfect new. Very nice selection. I bought ~50 cds.  Two out of three orders had missing selections but you're not charged and sometimes a selection will arrive few days later. These are some of the quirks I mentioned.

There's an abundance of maples here in Washington State. In fact, I'm looking at about a dozen out my window along with the fir, cedar, birch and poplar. It was a dry Summer so perhaps that's the reason for the unusually colorful display. Super productive agricultural season here too. :) You could almost survive on foraging wild fruits and cultivating veggies. Lots of local salmon, clams and oysters too. aa

Lyndon

Roy,
Yeah, I picked up on the previous Oldies sale and give props to whoever mentioned the SACD and the Duke Ellington
cd in 20 bit.  Very nice, though people were griping about the cut out.
I didn't see in the Fantasy offering any of the Creedence Clearwater Revival in 20 bit remastering. I would have been on top of that.  LoneWolf ordered a bunch from that last Oldies sale.
This morning I heard "Carol Brown" by Flight of the Conchords on the radio.  Very funny.  May have to break down and buy their new album, "I Told You I Was Freaky", though, as a rule, I try to not buy 'comedy records'
as their shelf life can become dated. 8)
