I thought there'd be more comments on this by now.  Three weeks since it opened and it's still not showing within 100 miles of where I live.  It seems like this one has had a very limited distribution and a tepid response. :|

don't worry if you don't get to see it on the big screen - the cinematography is not what makes this a good film, it's the characters - you will enjoy it yust as much at home...

This one eluded me. :?  I read the screenplay before seeing it so I knew within reason what to expect.  The story takes on too many elements and too much is left unresolved making it a less than satisfying.  Without exception all the characters are quirky and interesting to watch, but that doesn't make up for the story deficit.  The lightly esteemed Lady Killers was more complete and better film IMO.

Generously rated 2 out of 5.

Oy vey, what a strange movie. The Coen brothers really pegs the conformist angst of the late 60's Midwest, they certainly have some unresolved issues with their childhood. This is a very dark comedy (?) of a guy trying to find out what Elohim is saying to him. Uncomfortable to watch but a movie that will stay with you long after it ends.

A Serious Man has been nominated for best picture and best original screenplay.  How is that possible?
