Got this in the mail today

Will be interesting to see if the compression is better than the US release or not. I hope so, because if it's not, that's a lotta cheese wasted...

Bubba,

You are correct in that I will watch the new version and not the old one.

Just not sure it was "worth" the $20...

The picture quality is quite good in the new release, not quite as good as the Matrix but plenty good enough. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Ok, so this is out now

Has anyone picked up a copy yet?

I'd love to already own a copy. But the lack of employment/income for the last three months kinda cuts new DVD's right out of the budget.

If I see it this weekend I'll pick it up. If there's a difference my
Denon-5900 will show it.

I'm sure there's going to be a difference. I'm just wondering how much so. Will it be big enough on the picture that it'll be noticeable to everyone that didn't think the picture was lacking?

But most everyone agreed that the audio was severely lacking on the original release.

And I'm also curious if it'll be any better than the Extended Cut (it should be). The EC was a big step up over the original release IMO. And if the SB release is one better than that, then :thumb:  :thumb:

I was able to pick this one up this weekend,  I wanted to get both the original & superbit and go to some selected scenes to compare, so I put in the superbit first w/DTS audio and started watching, the next thing I know it’s 2 hours later and the movie is over, I thought to my self I should put in the original now, but didn’t want to (but I did). The original pic was dark and grainy and the sound was average at best not to clear with very boomy bass.  The superbit’s pic was very good (close to great), the dark scenes were deep and clear with more detail and the pic overall was cleaner with a lot less grain. The DTS 5.1 audio was great (not just good) more deep&clean bass but was not boomy at all it was a tad hot but it was no problem with me. I’m very glad I picked it up, better video and the DTS track made it worth the price. I do not know how the extended cut compares to this
One, does the unrated EC have a DTS track.

For all Kate fans out there, and there sure seems to be a lot of you, by all means enjoy the lady in an opulent edition in "Van Helsing".

Without the long black coat, and somewhat more, er, exposed, Kate looks better than ever.

The movie isn't much to speak of, some nice digital magic, and it's all there - Dracula, Frankenstein, werewolves, bats, female vampires you wouldn't mind having a bit off you, the works. They even have Hugh Jackman playing the title role.

The copy I saw was the European release - very good picture, very good sound, although somewhat exeggerated in places.

Cheers,
DVV

Watched the new SB Underworld and it does have a better picture (reference) than the regular and extended version.

Cliffhanger on Superbit looks better also but the movie somehow looks older than it is.
The DTS is an improvement , but this is no reference movie.....just good cheese.

The EC doesn't have a DTS track. Nor does the Japanese release of the theatrical cut. Looks like the only way to get DTS is the SB release.

Well, it's good to know that the SB is such an improvement over the regular issue, and is noticeably improved over the EC as well.

Guess it's moving to the top of the list as soon as I'm working again...

So I buy the original WS version, and the sound sucks. So then I buy the EC version, and it's much better sound wise and a little better picture wise. Now I gotta buy the SB version to get DTS and the best picture?

No wonder people get pissed off at these guys, they sure know how to milk us!

End of rant. I'll be picking up the SB version this weekend  :D
