Colin Hay concert...Who??

Remember the old group "Men at Work"?  The lead singer actually was in Abilene, TX last night, so what to heck, only $25 bucks, small venue...

Wow, this guy has still got something- actually more than just something.  Nice guitar work, nuanced lyrics and vocals, and an interesting balanced view of life on the downside of stardom.  I just order one of his cd's, eager to listen to some of the newer stuff again, and the older stuff in an acoustic version.  I'd encourage those of you that had forgotten about this guy (like me) to check out some of his later stuff.

On a downside, there was a bar in the back of the place full of people that wouldn't shut up during the singing  :nono:. Even Colin made a comment.  Has this type of rudeness become commonplace in small venue concerts?

His solo work has been exceptional to me.

My daughter just bought his "American Sunshine".  Ripped it to the server and when it started playing I thought sure it was Jimmy Buffett.  My wife agreed, but my daughter thought we were nutz to hear it that way.  I had no idea who he even was until your post.  Not bad stuff though.

Thanks for the info.  How would you characterize this music?

Vocally, he can add bits a pieces that sound alot like Sting.  Think "Roxanne" with one guitar and one vocalist.   But it's easier to simply do a youtube search and see for yourself.
Check this out.  Nice song that gets better as you hear it.

His style is like a modern folk to me.  Very melodic and well written tunes.  Easy to listen to and very catchy.  No mistaking who it is once you you hear him, if you remember Men at Work.

I've heard Colin a few times in the past 10 years, as I live half the year in Australia, and he tours around.
He's great!  He often will tell more stories than sing songs, and they are all just great.  It's all a lot different now from the Men At Work days.  No more mega concerts, limos, or any of that.  It's small venues from mining camps in Borneo, to pubs, to folk festivals.......................... He still has a very unmistakeable voice.
