Your local Physics classes could use your help

Well our local physics classes are in the second six weeks, just really wrapping up Galilean mechanics and starting to get a handle on Newtonian motion.  In Nov. some programs will begin to approach wave theory.  I encourage all of you with speaker building experience/knowledge to call a local high school and volunteer to discuss the importance of wave interaction, diffraction, reflections, phase issues, etc.  Many physics teachers are excited to have community volunteers bring something into the classroom.  It is also a opportunity to expose kids to your stereo system.  Try to bring them into an area with decent acoustics, which is seldom a typical classroom.  Even though the hardwood stage is reflective, we like the stage area where we can pull heavy curtains in front and back of a class.

Volunteer!
Get out there and get some kids excited about science  and good sound!  :thumb:

7 is great age in education.  The whole world is interesting.  Actually, the US ed. system in general does a pretty good job compared to international scores until about 8th grade.  From then on, it is a struggle to make science relevant...  which is why the speaker projects have been so successful.  There has to be something in a physics course that makes a kid say to him/herself "this is cool, hmmm, this is what engineers do...hmmmm"

Volunteers can give kids insights into applications that they don't have the world experience to make for themselves.

...wave theory and audio comes together in wave field synthesis principle.
Possibly the  http://www.holophony.net/Wavefieldsynthesis.htm  webstite interesting in this matter.
