I hope you're happy with your BGW, but if you didn't listen to the Mitsu, you missed out.  ;)

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we hear a correspondingly similar admonishment from Acurman, Adcoman, PhaseLinman and Philipsman.

I understand your point completely, but having bought my first Mitsu DA equipment new in 1978 I've heard all of the others. And while others may feel the same about brands that are near and dear to their hearts, my statement is still valid.

I still have my original Adcom GFA-535 and GTP-400 I bought new years ago. The sound is pleasant, unoffensive, and listenable - much better than any receiver available at the time. Comparing it to a modern design reveals that the combo's highs are rolled off with fuzzy imaging and hardly any depth of field. The GTP-400 is the weak link but as a starter system or for music in the kitchen you could do much worse.

That Mitsu looks pretty sweet.  How much did they want for it?

It's going to vary these days. Thankfully for people like me, they are still way under the radar. The DA-A7DC (75wpc) sold for $330.00 in 1978, the DA-A10DC (100wpc) sold for $490 in 1978, and the DA-A15DC (150wpc) sold for right at $600.00 in 1978. I've seen the A10 and A15 sell recently, depending on if the person knew what they had, for anywhere from $250-$400.

My absolute FIRST choice would be the BGW!

Not mine -- unless i was planning on gutting it and building something decent into it.

I'm not very fond of BGW gear either.

I think I'd have looked at the Acurus first and then the Mitsus.
