Looking for inexpensive USB DAC
« on: 12 Oct 2009, 06:31 pm »
On the weekends I tend to get up early and like to check out new music samples on Amazon and etc. I would like to do this without disturbing my fiancee who likes to sleep in.

About the only thing I have found that would fit the bill is the Fubar III USB DAC/headphone amp. At $229 it's not exactly expensive, but I would like to know if there are any cheaper alternatives.

Anyone have any ideas? I'm also open to buying used if anyone has anything to sell.

EMU 0404 usb... looks like about $180
and one bonus is you can use it for REW with phantom power on calibration mic's etc -which is what I use mine for.

Guess there is an 0202 usb version also, for just $100 or so.

I've got a ~3 month old Trends Lite USB/dac with battery pack

(http://www.trendsaudio.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=40&Itemid=28) (no affiliation)

I'll sell for 75 bucks plus shipping.  Works just fine.  Got it to try out before I discovered my iMac had an optical digital out, which I use now.  PM me if interested.  Cordially,

If you can find a diyParadise Monica, it sounded very good to me (before I managed to blow a capacitor with a faulty power supply).

Go look over at HeadFi....those guys seem to cycle through Dac's pretty quick and there always seems to be something interesting for sale there.
