Confused by new products? Me too.
« on: 10 Oct 2009, 06:20 pm »
So is the 'ICON AMP' an integrated amp?   Or a power-amp only designed to be used with the new DAC/PRE-AMP?

If it is an integrated amp am I correct in thinking it has 5-way binding posts for speaker outputs AND a subwoofer out (via RCA jacks)?

What is the power difference between this and the 'classic' Icon?  I see you're playing the 'peak' output game.   Knock that off, ok?  I've seen listings of 15wpc, 24wpc, and 30 wpc.  IS THIS THE SAME CHIPSET/AMP/WPC as the 'classic' 15wpc?   Or is this a different chipset/amp?

So basically it's a classic Icon with decent speaker binding posts, no mini-headphone jack on the front, and no digital in?

I see you have some questions on the Icon amplifier.  Not sure if this is the best way to get them answered.

It's called feedback.   They can take it for what it's worth.  I own an Icon and have had lots of tripath amps.  It certainly plays the loudest and has the best bass of any of the ones I've owned.

That said, I haven't seen 'peak power' in any manufacturers spec for a LONG TIME.

No, this is just a stereo amp with a volume control (single input preamp circuit).

Because we are fraking (This is what they used in Battle Star Galactica :)) busy and the info got pass around from different sources (factory, Casey) and then someone finally spent some time to sort it out.
These are PRELIMINARY INFO, OK!  So until we finalize our spec, don't blame us for errors.
The product has not been shipped yet!
Peak power does matter for such a lower power amp. Icon has 12W RMS, but peak out at 15W so if you turn up the power too much, it gets distorted. Therefore we never recommend Icon for bookshelf speaker. It is only for desktop near field listening. I am sure out of the thousand of Icon users, some use it with bookshelf speaker.

No, it uses a different amp chip than Icon.
