Bryston IR GLITCH
« on: 10 Oct 2009, 02:07 pm »
Well, It is really not Bryston's fault.  I have been having problems with the volume on my SP2 with the Bryston remote and also the MX980 remote.  It would not operate, or did so eraticly, jumping the volume way up or only every 3 or 4 pushes to advance a few db.  After some mind twisting experiments I found the source of the problem to be with the Samsung LCD panel I own.  With the TV on, I had problems, and with the TV off everything worked normal.  Thats weird I thought .  So after much searching on line, I found many others with the same problems but with other devices.  Mostly cable box's.  Samsung has no firmware update for this problem and it has been around for awhile, and has no plans to remedy the issue.  So......... If you have been experiencing problems with erratic IR, try turning off your TV.  It is the root of the interference.  I am going to go to RF and see if that solves the issue.  I hope  this helps anyone still scratching their heads.

It's not the TV its self , but the power settings that change the screen to different light conditions in the room.  (as I understand it)  seems to scramble the IR signals.  Seems to be with Samsung panels.  Google it.

I googled and there are a lot of people having problems.
That's an interesting problem.
I guess I'll stick with my old Sony crt RPTV for a while longer.

Unbelievable--I've been having these exact same erratic IR issues with my SP2 and MX980.  I'm using the mini phono input on the back rather than a flasher, though I'm not sure that's the issue.  I currently have the RFX antenna near the rack and a media player, so moving that is my first order of business.  I also turned down the IR output of the base station to the SP2, though that didn't seem to help much.  I also have a satellite box directly above the SP2, though it isn't a DVR.  Any thoughts on that?
The TV hadn't occurred to me, but I'm going to pay attention to that now.
My OEM remote was stolen, so unfortunately I can't compare.  URC doesn't seem to have the SP2 codes, so I was forced to buy a harmony and learn them into the MX980, which isn't ideal.

It seems Samsung is not going to try to fix the problem.   Not near as good product support as Bryston.
One thing you might try is going into the TV menu and lower the power saver settings, and screen back lighting second.
Turn the off the TV & try the remote.  I did & the Bryston and MX980 both worked flawlessly.
It would be nice if Bryston sent the IR codes to Universal Remote control for us users of both. products.    Universal will not do the leg work finding new product codes.  We have to.  Then they will put it into thier library of codes.
