Whats the actual length of a Bryston XLR cable
« on: 9 Oct 2009, 10:55 pm »
Hi All,

today I got my set of Bryston XLR cables and they run exactly 20cms short.. How is the length measured? From tip to tip of the connectors or just the length of the cable excluding the connectors..

plz let me know.. thankx..

20cms is 8 inches! That's way to short assuming your ordered a metered pair?

And for me to put my point across, i just want to make sure how the lenght of a XLR cable is measured.. from tip to tip including the connectors or just cable length is measure when a meter or 2 meters cable is ordered.. thankx for clarification..

Sorry did not understand -it is the length of the cable.  It must have been ordered that specific length - who was the dealer and I will check?

James,
I bought it here.. I have ordered 3 pairs of 2 meter runs and a pair of 1 meter cables. I have now measured exactly each cable..

The supposedly 2 meter cables are 6 ft in length from tip to tip of the XLR connectors. That means, i have lost twice the length of the cable equivalent to the length of the XLR connector.

In short, he has sent me a shorter cable and in addition to that he measured it from tip to tip of the connector, which is kind of double loss for me.. i am trying to contact him.. Thankx for your reply..

Cm..

I will send you the pm regarding his name and email.. thankx..

James am I correct in understanding that for a one metre cable, the cable itself is 1 metre and the XLR connections are in addition to the 1 metre (so the total length of a 1 meter cable tip to tip would be longer than 1 metre by the length of the two XLR pins)?

The reason I ask is that I've also ordered cables a couple of days ago from the gentleman indicated in the audiogon advert above. He confirms that the cables are 1 metre tip to tip, but I'm not clear on whether the XLR should be excluded or included in the 1 metre measurement.

The cable including the connectors would be 1M as the cable fits inside the connector.

james

PS- is this guy a Bryston dealer on audiogon?  Just wondering where he is getting the cables from?

No idea James, I thought I was just buying a pair of second hand cables from a regular audiogon user advert till I noticed that CMReddy above had purchased his cables off the same advert. Worth checking with him directly?

Just checked Agon, the advert's obviously been removed this morning.... looking at his feedback he's been selling Bryston cables before though, so definitely worth confirming directly.

Hi James,

now i am not sure, if they are really original Bryston Cables. As a matter of fact they have Neutrik XLR connectors (nc-fxx) and (nc-mxx) and Van Damme tour grade classic XKE Quad Microphone cable 268-026-000 Ultra pure silver plated OFC.

Does original cables have Bryston name printed on them? Thankx..
