Ipod with Wadia i170 & Pace Car 2
« on: 9 Oct 2009, 04:08 am »
Hi Steve & serengetiplains,

I am a happy user of an offramp 3 from PC feeding an AN Dac. However, being the curious type, I am also intrigued by your comments regarding the IPOD-Wadia i170-Pace car 2-DAC combination. I would like to seek your thoughts & further elaboration on this combo :

1) What is file format used for the playback. Is it Wav or Apple lossless ?

2) How is the pace car configured ?

3) Will the Ipod/Wadia need to be sent to Steve to calibrate the Pace Car ?

4) Most importantly, how's the sound quality...

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Joe Ling

It is S/PDIF.  All formats are all changed to this for playback.  Just like a CD players output.

It is a mode 3.

Yes, the Pace-Car 2 clock must be tuned to the iPod and Wadia.

Same as any other device feeding a Pace-Car 2, no difference.

Yes, I feel the noose getting tighter.

BTW, how's the comparison between apple lossless & full .wav when played back from the IPOD ?

I have too many songs to cram into 1 IPOD, so each individual IPOD has to be tuned to the pace car 2 ?

ALAC does change the audio quality a bit, but its small.  If you want tagging and album art, use AIFF.  It also reduces the quality a bit, but again, small.  You may not hear the difference in your system.  If you have an Overdrive DAC, you will probably hear the difference.
