Refurb/finished Scott 222C
« on: 8 Oct 2009, 03:19 am »
Hello all,

Got a Scott 222C I've fixed up for sale....

Here is a list of the things done:
- Replaced all major and most minor capacitors. Only ceramic and tone capacitors were left in.
- Some additional filter capacitance was added.
- Added bias test points on the cathode of each power tube to enable easy balancing. (Fits standard meter leads, uses a 10-ohm, 1% resistor in each cathode)
- New bias balance potentiometers (Not shown in the insidey-parts image on picasa).
- New silicon bridge rectifier for the bias/filament supply.
- Some new power resistors in the power supplies.
- Potentiometers cleaned and lubed.  One tone pot moves a little tight, but it does not affect sound or operation.
- The cabinet was sanded, stained, and a coat of semi-gloss polyurethane was added.

Cosmetics:
Pretty damn good overall.  A bit of lettering is missing on the loudness dial, though I've seen this on most Scott integrateds for some reason (fat fingers?).  There is very little to no pitting on the aluminum chassis.  The cabinet is in great shape, some dark spots where the tubes are located in the metal grating that is near impossible to clean.

Sound:
Sounds great! (I assume like most 222Cs sound).  I'm not much for audio propaganda... (blame the engineer in me)

Tube included:
-  Four soviet 6P14P-EV for output tubes.  I've tried regular EL84s in this amp and they redplate, so only use 7189 equivalents.  The rusky tubes work great in it and sound great as well.  Comes in two closely matched pairs (best I could do with a shipment of 10) at ~11.7 mA each for one pair and 12.5mA each for the other pair.  They are each pretty close, but the bias balance pots need a slight turn to obtain this.  No boxes (was part of a bulk pack I assume).
- Four Sovtek 12AX7LPS.  I'd also strongly recommend sticking to a matched quad here, since the filaments are all in series via a DC supply in the amp.  These tube are super quiet, and sound good to boot as well.  Boxes included.  The scott stove-pipe tube shield are included, but I haven't needed them, and these sovteks are a little fat for them.
- Two NOS Tung-Sols 7199.  These also sound and work great, sad to see them go :(.  Boxes included.
- JJ 5AR4/GZ34.  I've never had any problems with JJ rectifiers, so I'm going to keep using them until I do.  Although if you really want, I can throw in a used good-testing Mullard GZ34 instead for an extra $30. Includes a used good-testing Mullard GZ34 for rectification.

The brass tacks:
I'm asking $700 $650 $625 plus shipping to any of the 48 states.  Will take money order or paypal + 3%.  I'm located in PA zip 16803.  Amp and cabinet will ship in two separate boxes (to avoid the amp crushing the cabinet).  Figure around $50, but I should be able to get a better estimate for serious inquiries.  No packing or shipping materials fees.

thanks!

Bump for price drop, and now includes the Mullard GZ34 instead of the JJ for no charge.
