Lost Cover Art
« on: 6 Oct 2009, 04:22 pm »
My DAC will work with 24/196 files and plays some I have down loaded to my hard drive beautifully. The majority of my music however is made up of normal rips of a number of CDs (1,800)). I have been contemplating using one of the software programs to upsample everything to 24/196 but have been given to understand that this will cause me to lose all my cover art and meta data. If this is so what is the best work around? I sure don't want to lose the cover art!

If you are on a Mac, Pure Vinyl 3 will upsample your files into RAM, so you don't have to create new files on your drives. To my ears upsampled 24/192 files sounded better through my Focusrite DAC/ADC than the original 16/48 files.

It uses iTunes as the database for choosing songs and playlists, but handles all of the audio processing on its own. Right now it just loads 1 song at a time so there is a slight pause as it upsamples & buffers to RAM, but an upcoming release will buffer multiple tracks for gapless playback.

The program is mainly for digitizing LP's, but it really improves iTunes playback. Demo software is available to try it out.
