Longwolf,

I've been to the Green Mountain website many times already but the info given on the Europa is very insufficient, I think they should update the webiste with more up-to-date product info...........Now I'll have to try and locate an Europa owner in SoCal who would offer to let me audition the speakers.
 :)

Thanks,

I have talked to Roy on many occasions and by his own admission he is unfortunately not a website person.  He would much rather talk in person or have you talk to his dealers, like Anthony Perotta.  When I talked to Anthony back in August about looking for a replacement for the Soliloquy 5.0's I had in a second system, I had full intentions of buying another pair of Reynaud Twins which I had previously owned.  Anthony talked me into trying the Europas instead, and he was right.  They have even surplanted a pair of 3X+ expensive monitors in the main system.  Try them and if you don't like them, you will lose very little if you have to sell them used, which I don't think you will

Lonewolf & JackD,

Thanks to you guys for the kind input.  :D

I'll try and give Roy a ring to see if he could help me locate a pair of Europa's, close to my address, for an audition. By the way, if you guys had a pic of the speaker with the grille off, could you post it here?

Thanks,

I am trying to find out if the Europa used the same woofer as the Ascend's as they  look identical.  :)

Would that be good or bad if it were the same ? :? ... I don't know , but if you call GMA tomorrow , guess you'd have your answer. :)

Do you guys know if they make a matching center channel speaker to go with the Europas ? I'm auditioning speakers and this is one I'd like to try out.

Yes. I'm looking at the info packet that came with my speakers , lists different models of GMA speakers. Center channel speaker with adjustable tweeter, fully shielded, as are the Europa's. The model is>> the Continuum 0.5 C/S<<... 6" woofer and 28mm tweeter. Black marble housing, 32 lbs. the size is 10 7/8"h x 13 7/8"w x 14 1/4"d. Can be shelf mounted. Guess check with Green Mountain for more info. Good luck ! :)

Any of the recent Europa owners.  Do you have any updates for us as to what you have found in terms of sound and associated equipment you think works.  Longer term owners like me are interested in your impressions and compatibility with your equipment.

I've only used them with 2 amps: my AKSA 100 and the Panny XR25.  The AKSA is a great match.  The Europa's have a terrific energy and they present every detail the amp feeds them.

The Panny was surprisingly good for its cost but, wasn't in the same league as my AKSA.

Preamp differences are subtle but apparent.

Speaker cable differences are apparent as well.  I'm using Audience Maestro and they sound great compared to zip cord and some Canare I had lying around... but, I kind of expect that.

Do you think the Europas would work in a small office system?

Hello Jack , I'm quite pleased with the sound of the Europa's. I've been in a buy and try mode for awhile. Been running the Europa's between my Krell amp, 100 watts and Scott Nixon Mono amps, 40 watts. The speakers sound good using either amp, tho with the Krell I have much more power. As for a description of what the Europa's sound like, neutral....balanced with details. Nothing stands out, just a well balanced sound. Some speakers handle bass great, others noted for their midrange, still others great high end. The Europa's....balanced. Jack , what equipement are you using with your speakers ? Thanks  :)

Wolf

I am using tubes front to back.  Norh CD-1, Music Reference or Kora Equinoxe Pre, Music Reference RM-10 EL-84 amp or Granite Audio 860.1, KT-88 based, monos.  Using Audio Magic Excalibur II siver ribbon IC's and Luminous Audio Synchresta sold core silver speaker cables.  Though they have more than acceptable bass on there own, I don't ask them to do much as they are high passed at 65hz to a pair of Vandersteen subs.

Thanks Jack, for the info. Looking over the many pages of this thread again (and its a long one), looks like the "newest" Europa owners are myself, Carlman, and Chris_B. Not sure if there are any others. Anyone else ? :)
