Very cool, Nathan, I love that type of photographic work.  Here's my contribution.

The great thing about macro is that you can find interesting subjects almost anywhere. I think the series nathanm linked to showed that. You just have to look. It's not all about bugs and flowers. Lots of good lenses available these days, any lens that gets you to 1:1 will provide plenty of scope for imaginative photographs (and frustration, but it's all about learning  isn't it ;) ).

I have to say I used to hate macro photography, but now I don't know how I would do without it  :o
