Lucinda Williams in Greensboro

I attended Lucinda William's concert last night in Greensboro and was blown away.  Thanks to Kevin for the great seats.

Lucinda was tremendous, much better than her last concert in Charlotte.  Recently married and I heard she went to rehab.  Very relaxed and her voice was . . . can't find the words, just let me say she sounded GREAT.

Also want to mention the Carolina Theathre in Greensboro, it is one of the best venues I've experienced.  The acoustics were out of this world.  Made me want to toss my stereo out the window.  The real absolute sound!!!

Needless to say I'm a very happy audiophile this morning.   aa

Problem is I've never heard a stereo that could shin a light to live.

Guess that's our quest huh?

You know i must be the weird one around here. Ive heard that comment quite a few time's and i always kinda scratch my head. Ive always had a good time at concerts but i attribute a lot of that to the sharing of the music with a group of fans. i never thought the acoustics were great or an outstanding performance, could just be the bands i go see. I always think the cd /lp is better sound then then a live performance

Must be the bands and venues.  Some venues really muck up the sound and the cd/lp's do sound better, but a venue with good acoustics will make anyone's stereo sound less than real.  I've been to several great places . . Memphis, Charlotte, New Jersey jazz clubs that were special.

I agree.  Live shows,  live bands and venues are all inconsistent.

I don't recall ever getting excellent sound in a large venue.

Arenas and stadiums always have terrible sound.   It always cracked me up the hype and legend that is Madison Square Garden,  for concerts.   Madison Square Garden is a tremendous place to see and experience a live concert.

But sound quality has absolutely nothing to do with it.  The Garden's sound has always been terrible.   On some rare ocassions I did find a band or two who some how got pretty good sound in The Garden.  But that's the exception and I'm sure their sound guys struggled mightly to pull that off.

Outdoor stadiums are a trainwreck.

The best places for good sound,  that I have found,  are the much smaller,  intimate venues and small jazz/blues..etc clubs.

But it's still hit or miss depending on the artist and their sound people.
