I am selling my Cary SLI-80 Signature with upgraded Jenson Oil Caps, which is in great condition except that the remote doesn't function (pics below). A nice opportunity to buy an SLI 80 Sig at a low price, if'n you don't mind getting up to change the volume (my wife does ;0). The manual dial is silky smooth and if you ever decide to, Cary can fix or replace the remote for you. $1,550 OBO.
Sounds and looks great with the wonderful midrange, clean liquid highs, and solid bass for which the SLI-80 is so well known:
"The midrange coming from this little unit is more natural in timbre and quality, to my ears, than anything I have heard from solid state and when compared to the best of tube amps this little guy can stand on his own. What is most amazing is that it sounds lifelike and after all that is what it is all about.
I am not going to tell you that the Cary SLI-80 blew away the top solid state amps in the bass reproduction, but I will say that it handled the chores with more guts than any other amp of this power that I have ever listened to. My old reference Quicksilver KY 88 amps had the ability to produce some serious bass at the same wattage. The SLI-80 was able to match them punch for punch and that is saying something.
The SLI-80 produces quantity and quality of music that one would expect to get only from larger and much more expensive separates. You get bulletproof construction, great aesthetics, holographic imaging, and magical midrange reproduction. Coupling those points with the fact that the Cary Audio SLI-80 just simply delivers some of the most enjoyable sound you will find in that price point makes it an item you want to be sure to audition." Sensible Sound
"I liked the Cary SLI-80 a lot. It is well built, very reliable, and communicates the essence of music really, really well. You will want to listen to music through this thing, and I am willing to wager that you will find that the hours melt away faster than ever when the SLI-80 is switched on. I found myself drifting away again and again, losing track of time yet remaining focused on the music". Positive Feedback
40 Watts Triode/80 Watts Ultralinear, Subwoofer Outs, Great Headphone Amp, 4/8 Ohm Impedence Switches.
Cosmetically very nice condition with no nasty dents, dings or scratches on the body. There are scratches on the nuts of the left side speaker connectors from pliers used to tighten speaker cables - just on the nuts and the rest of the connectors look new. The previous owner replaced the right side bent connectors with original parts ordered from Cary, but left these two alone. Like both of the other Cary amps I've owned, there is a light line of transparent shellac on the back of the transformer - you can just make it out in the pic.
The SLI-80 runs quieter than most tube amps I've owned, and with my 91 db speakers I can make out only a light hum right next to the speakers. Comes with stock tubes (see below) which have been used only lightly and run strong with no hissing or spitting - the previous owner replaced the tubes with upgrades right away when he bought it, and I have only listened a few hours, realizing my wife and I need a remote.
Includes manual and Cary biasing cable, which makes biasing the amp a breeze. I will pack and double box carefully with styrofoam inserts, but would prefer a local buyer in DC since I do not have the original shipping materials. Buyer pays actual charges for shipping of choice. Checks, money orders, and Paypal (+3% or only $5 for paypal echeck) are all fine, though I will need to wait for personal checks, non postal money orders, and cashiers checks to clear before shipping. I can usually ship within 24 hours of receving postal money orders or after paypal payments clear.
Thanks for looking and happy listening!
