I replaced the 6521/22 pairs with the new MJ21193/4 pairs thinking they might be drop-ins.  I was wrong - the clipping indicator lights up immediately.  Any comments on what else I need to change?  I do have an email into Mike Pickett as well.

Holy cow I think you're on your own here soldering transistors (I assume).  Mike will be impressed

In this case, no soldering is involved.  These are the transistor that are screw-mounted on the heat sink fins.  Plus I did a bit more tech work and think that the problem is more likley not the transistors themselves.  At a minimum, the emitter resistors appear blown.
