Some advice on used equipment
« on: 23 Sep 2009, 12:50 pm »
Time goes by awfully fast and we're not always aware how old something is that we have purchased used. Keep in mind that most companies only support proprietary components for their products for about 10 years (if you're lucky).

I made a post regarding the Marantz DR700. Great CD recorder until the spindle motor started to act up.  :(  It's 11 years old and It uses a unique spindle motor.

On the more cheerful side: Sometimes parts units can be found inexpensively.

I don't believe you'll have to worry so much about amps, EQ's, etc... but keep in mind the date of manufacture on used equipment that contains motors or specialized components. If you like it, order some spare parts before you can't any more.
