Soliloquy 5.3 & 6.2
« on: 3 Jan 2004, 11:04 pm »
I'm a current Norh synthetic Marble drum 6.9 owner for a couple years & have been in a pinch because the drums are potentially lethal to my small children when mounted. I've been looking @ some floorstanding Soliloquy speakers (the 5.3 & 6.2) on closeout @ around $1000 & $1400 & have been impressed with the pictures & reviews. I'm looking for some feedback from our community here on whether I should be looking elsewhere. I guess I would prob. be using them 60%+ for home thetre duties.

I just picked up a pair of the 6.2's and am very pleased with them.  They sound fantastic in my system which is only 2ch music.  I only have about 100 hours on them and according to the manual they will take up to 500 hours to break in so I'm looking foward to even better sound down the road.  I am very impressed with the build quality of the cabinet, and they weigh in at 90 lbs a piece so they are very solid.  I got mine with the curly maple veneer and they are beautiful.  For the closeout price of $1400, I think they are an awesome deal!

I have owned a pair of 5.3s for close to 4 years now, and they are very, very good speakers.  With the right gear driving them, they become holographic. The break-in time really is several hundred hours but good things come to those who wait. I highly recommend them. At $1000 it's a no-brainer.

I have owned a pair of 5.3's for 3 years now. I bought them used at an audio shop when they were 1 year old, so they were already broken in. Mine are cherry. The fit and finish is outstanding. I agree, that with the right gear they totally disappear. Pretty decent bass extension for little pair of 5 1/4" drivers. They are, imo, a little on the warm side, but it could be my gear. At any rate, I swapped out the stock caps in the x-overs with sonicaps and they really sparkle now. I have no desire, (as of yet), to replace them. Of couse I don't have the cash to replace them either :)

markC,
I'm curious, is this an easy thing to do?  What kind of difference do the sonicaps make?  Where do you get them?  Thanks.
