i'm really loving the sound of vibraphones, marimbas, and glockenspiels (sp?) lately; do any of you guys have some killer recordings featuring this group of instruments? i don't care if they're orchestral, trip-hop, electronica, small group jazz, or anything else....i just want to hear some great tracks.

to be clear, i'm more interested in good tracks involving these instruments, not necessarily in the quality of the recording of them. of course, if you have recommendations that fall into both categories....well all the better  :thumb:.

best,

jp

One slightly different...... an eastern flair...

These three are all sublime, and undeniable classics:

"Like Minds", featuring Gary Burton, Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Dave Holland, and Roy Haynes

"Crystal Silence", featuring Gary Burton and Chick Corea

"The New Crystal Silence", featuring Gary Burton and Chick Corea

I love this one too:

"Beyond the Wall", featuring Kenny Garrett, Bobby Hutcherson, Pharaoh Saunders, Brian Blade et al.

The albums above are examples of the vibraphone done "right."  For an example of the glockenspiel done "wrong", go no further than Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing", from Axis: Bold as Love.

For another different take - Steve Reich uses them in minimalist/classical works.
