47K vs 100K loading

Jim,

Don't know if you've seen it but there's a hugh thread over at Audiogon about old MM cartridges. One of the things these people seemed to uncover is that the traditional 47K loading seems to be inferior to a 100K loading. here's the thread:

Just wondering of you ever experimented with this or if you have any insights or comments?

I have a Trumpet and love it. I'm using a Dynavector HOMC (XX-1) with it and am wondering if this 100K loading might be appropriate. Just wondering which resistor I need to change out if I were to experiment a bit to see if I can hear a difference?

Thanks,
Bob

I doubt the higher loading is going to help a modern Dynavector.  The 100k+ is good for old Shure carts, mainly.  It also really helps to remove all capacitive loading.

I can attest to using 100K for Shures. I just installed the resistors into my Bugle, which uses Holco/PRP
resistors, Orange drop cap's, OPA627's in U3, and is battery powered. I'm using a Shure V15 VxMR, and am
very impressed by the difference; greater dynamics with a fuller midrange.
