Orange Globe Problems?
« on: 7 Sep 2009, 01:20 am »

Pretty new to this tubedom stuff so bear with me.  I have a Valve Audio Black Widow Hybrid preamp.  Been doing fine, decided to swap in some Amperex Orange Globe tubes, fired up the amp.  Snap! Crackle! and Pop! from the speakers.  Whoa!  Music sounded fine but my sub stopped working, i am running it out from the preamp also.  hmm, checked all connections, everything seems fine.  Try again, Snap!  ect..

so, went back to the other tubes, turned it on, fine, no problem, no snap or pop and the sub came back.  so, i would guess one or more of the tubes are bad but why the snap and why the no sound to the sub?

Dirty pins, maybe?

Clean the pins, but if it continues, then almost certainly it's a bad tube.

Probably gassy tubes or really low emission?

Did you try one at a time (new 1 w/ 1 old one)?
