For sale is a two year old passive pre-amp (retail price $300.00).  The unit is in perfect cosmetic and flawless working condition.  Like all of Dusty?s products, it is a well built, no nonsense, practical piece that is handcrafted in America.  Although Dusty would be the last to toot his own horn, the VPC-3 boasts of an Alps Blue Velvet potentiometer, gold-plated circuit board and silver solder construction.  Keep in mind that this is a purist unit and as such is not remote controlled.  For more see the Channel Island website:  http://www.ciaudio.com/

Dusty?s design intent was to add nothing and take nothing away.   He prefers resistive based passives over transformer types for several reasons.  To quote him, ?Transformer types have much more coloration due to the amount of wire and turns in the transformer...and also the magnetic field effects.  Volume setting is done by selecting different taps on the transformer, which means a switch with several pairs of contacts and selecting the output level in "steps". A good potentiometer offers infinitely variable adjustment and higher reliability (no multi-position switch).?

Going passive allows for more transparency, but to be honest it also means that impedance matching, cabling, and gain staging require careful attention.  I used it with Channel Island Audio VMB-1 monoblocks in a no smoking/pet environment and had no problems.  I?m just looking to try something different.

I?ll money order only.  Price includes shipping to the lower 48.
