I'm about to run speaker wire for a HT system built around the HT3s and HTC.  This is the wire (2 wire, 12 gauge):

I've been considering using tube amps on the upper part of the HT3s or on the entire HT3s.  Are there tube amps at a reasonable price (say, less than 2,000) that can drive an entire HT3?  If not, I'll have to biamp, which I don't mind doing, but this means running two sets of wires for each speaker.

So, any tube amps for less than two grand that can drive the HT3s?  If I decide to route two sets of wire, should I run them next to each other or try to separate them?

I have a tube amp and a SS amp and have thought about doing the same thing.  However I don't really understand what is needed to do so.  I guess some kind of crossover attenuator is required to match the two amps.  If I just put the two amps on each speaker chances are the volume will be different on the upper and lower drivers.  Also, I don't really get the benefit of driving a tube amp full range into the passive crossover for the mid and tweeter.  Won't the amp sound better if it didn't see the low frequencies at all?  Would putting a device to handle these issues between the pre and amp create new problems (more cables, less transparency)?   Anyway, that's why I haven't tried it yet.

Bob,

Can you please remind me how large your room is?

What volume levels do you want to achieve?

Not getting into subjective performance, the Dodd 120's can drive the HT3's to fairly high SPL levels.

I just saw an older pair for a silly low price:

If you can spare a little more money on speaker cable, these Single Crystal (PCOCC-A) will be a nice upgrade.
Priced at $34.00 a meter and $88.00 a meter.
Even if you only used these on the Center and Front speakers it would make significant sonic improvement.
