Anyone gone SST to SST2? Your thoughts please......
« on: 27 Aug 2009, 10:43 pm »
Hi All,

When I went from ST to SST series I noticed a change in the audio signature, an obvious change.

That's 3,4, & 7B ST all to SST series.

So has anyone gone like for like SST (or SSTC) to the new squared series ???

What are your thoughts?

If you rolled back time would you change SST to SST2 again?

Many thanks,

Andy.

Mad Mr H,I had all 7B-ssts+4B-sst,I have a 7B-sst+4B-sst left.
I went to the Squared SST2s Two times and plan to do 3X(for the front)
I can hear alot further into the music, and the highs do trail off to places unknown.I won't go back to SSts.If I had no choice  I would be content with the ssts,But the squares are out and for me there's no going back.
I'm sure you remember which pair I'm talking about.
I have heard that the 14sq+7sqs get you 95% of what the big guns have pouring out of them minus the power, and they are superb even at very low volume as you can  hear tiny musical details. My comparison is not fair I suppose as I do have more power, man I like that. But if the 14s+7s are 95%
there,I would upgrade,but that's just me.

In your case you went 7 to 28, From my point of view I have gone 3 to 4 to 7 in the past and see a change in the same range.

7 to 28 sst2 I would expect change as well.

So from 7sst to 28sst2 might not be a totally fair comparrison.

PS - Did you consider keeping a pair of 7's for the rears and sell the 4B?

Hi Andy, probably not a good comparison, but I do like the idea of the 7sq being close to the 28s only in a smaller pkg.I did consider all 7X5.So once my fronts are finished, then because it'll drive me crazy,i'll go 7sqs for the surrounds.
I should have traded my 4B-ssts on the 28s(same retail value)and used the 7s for the surounds :o,never even crossed my mind,of course I'd be upgrading those also to the sq.eventually, she never ends and that's a  good thing .
So my visualization practice now is, every morning visualize another 28 and we'll, the 7sqs I have trade in back up,Jeez I should be visualizing a bigger room  as that right now is more important,I think,11X12 Oh the pressure ,
no pun.

Hi Those amps are NOT the sq series - I checked already.

They are also more expensive than others I know of.

Anyone gone 7SST to SST2 ???

Or 4 or 14's.....

The serial numbers suggest that these are the 7Bs which included the square improvements but not the logo... there were a few of those made before the square series was officially announced... best to run the SR numbers by James.
If they are just the 'old' SSTs, then yes, way overpriced.

hehe, c'mon Mr. H, you know you want em... are a couple of subjective reviews really going to change that sentiment? why don't you get the local dealer to lend you an amp for demo and let your ears decide...

Well one thing I can say for a certainty was that the top end is silky smooth.
