WPC question
« on: 27 Aug 2009, 03:38 pm »
I have recently finished my listening and have had a few so-called audio specialist come by and listen to my setup. 2 out of the three that came by immediatly said the setup was fine, but that if i added more power that the sound could be so much better. Of course they probably wanted to sell me something.

I have a fully loaded Bryston B100 a BCD-1 and using Wilson sophia's. I think it sounds incredible. At 4 ohm i am about 200 wpc. I am unable to turn the volume past 12 o'clock, so what would the advantage be in having more power. It's not that i object to buying a 4Bsst, but unless it really make much of a difference I would rather spend my money on music.

I have a small room. 10.5 ft. x 18 ft.

Unless the Sophias are super-INefficient you probably won't notice any difference at all.  I currently own 2 amps in the 40 watt/channel range and have never, ever bottomed them out.  Truth is, most of the time we're only using 1-2 watts of power.  More for loud transients.  I'd say your 200 watt/channel-into-4-ohm amp is plenty powerful.

E Rex

I started a thread about my speaker size and most said no big deal. Although i love the sound i bought the speakers because i got a great deal on them.

The sophia's are very efficient.

Some day I plan on selling them and purchasing something more appropriate for my room size. My biggest problem is what speakers.

thx
Matt
I thought that all those guy's were full of it. The set up sounds wonderful and i couldn't imagine more power making that much better
