VR 4 SR mk III versus VR 4 SR mk II
« on: 26 Aug 2009, 08:33 pm »
Dear All,

Today I received the new VR 4 SR mk III.

I just put them in line with the other 'brothers'.

The VR 4 SR mk III are connected to the Kronzilla SR at 50 watt pc.
I used the EERA Tentation as a source.
The VSA Master built speaker cables are connected to the VR 4 SR mk III
The other cables are HT Magic line.

Switched on the power and...................... there is music.

Wow........ big difference Albert, congratulations.
This is really an upgrade I did not expect.

I lined up the Unifield III, the VR 4 SR mk III, The VR 4 SR mk II and the VR 5 SE mk II.
I took a few pictures from the line up as seen below.

They still have to break in so I will give you more details after a few days.

Unbelievable, just dropped out of the truck from a long trip and already making that nice music.

Stay tuned.

Cor

The Scanspeak Wide Surround tweeter is a relatively new design and was not used on the VR-4 Gen III since the tweeter was not available back then. You may be confusing the Scanspeak-designed Dual Ring Tweeter built for the VR-4 Gen III by Peerless (shown on the VR-4 SR Mk2 photo taken by Cor Dekker) as the one used in the Gen III, as indeed, it is the same model. Although the original Dual Ring Peerless version sounds very close to the newer Wide Surround Scanspeak when heard directly on its axis, the off-axis response of the new Wide Surround design is slightly more linear at 90-degrees off axis.

We are still using the Dual Ring Scanspeak on the VR-5 Anniversary and upper models, since it had the Neo motor structure and rear vented chamber from its inception.

After a week full power 'rock around the clock' the new VR 4 SR mk III is making more music every day. It is nice to notice the system is growing and growing.
Smooth, fast, spacy and full of air. Where is the end?
We will wait and hear.

Hi
Some question about the new MKIII.
Why has the ohm change to 4 instead as before 6 ohms average?
Is the M/T still 8 ohm or is it 4 ohm?
And power rating from 500W to 300W?
Thanks

Hi Mc Twins,

This looks like a question for VSA.
I will forward this to Albert.
