GR/Rythmik Dymaxion Servo Sub a la Christof
« on: 22 Aug 2009, 02:04 am »
I just picked up the orphan black walnut/bird's eye maple dymaxion sub cabinet from Christof and as you can see it is truly a work of art, hand polished, and simply stunning to look at.

But... when I fired it up for testing in my HT, the listening just blew me away (on "Watchmen").  I cannot imagine Marbles across town here with 4 of these suckers in a room about the same size as mine.  That has to be just painful.  While the bass is clean and has tremendous attack, what is amazing is how fast it slows right back down on the trailing edges.  This is an unbelievable sub, never heard anything like it in such a modest size box.  WOW  :o

Great looking sub ... You cannot expect anything less form christof!

How'd you compare it with the ACI subs you have back there? :)

Well, Mike makes great subs and is a class guy, but I have to say he should take the opportunity to hear a current technology servo setup like this one  For me there won't be any turning back...

Glad to hear that things worked out well Tom.

That sure is one of the nicest looking subs I have seen.   :thumb:

Tom,

Its on my short list. I've alread invested in the XJ-12 woofers as you know and I've already built the crossover and I'm almost done with the amp. Maybe after 6 months I'll sell it off and go for Brian Ding's servo creations (I imagine (4) dual OB servo subs will be the cake!).

Too many projects! Christof does AWESOME work!

Anand.

Christof,

Saw your V-1 drawings they look awesome!!!

Are you going to build a pair?

If going with multiple subs is more in line w/ Dr. Geddes idea on minimizing room interaction by breaking up standing waves and nodes (I think that's the gist of the idea) than sheer output, then it might be really cool too try mixing OB servo subs in w/ the sealed one.

I think so....just need to find someone else (TomS) to pull the trigger so I can build a coupe pairs to help offset the costs.  The basic architecture of the cabinet leaves the door wide open for interesting design work

Actually, that is exactly what I'm thinking right now...  1 Dymaxion I already have and 2 dual OB servos with my Abbeys.

Damn I'm feeling behind the times...

What's a V-1 and when did you get Abbeys????
You have been in the woods a long time my friend.

The V-1's are Danny's newest creation (at least announced) with 2 servo OB subs per side and a P-Audio coax open baffle 12" top end.

I ordered the Abbeys some time back and just got them about a month ago.  They are the real deal.

The ob subs play up higher into the 100's too, so its particularly well suited for the BB function in the multiple sub approach.

I have a single sealed servo and soon to be 2 of the dual driver ob servo subs.  Just need to add the damping on the room now.
