I've got 11,000 plus songs stored in many playlists in Itunes 8.2.1 (6) on my eMac.

The Itunes library of songs is on an external iomega HD. Now I want to have the ability to just remove the HD from the eMac by unplugging the USB cable from the Mac and plugging it into the Mac Book Pro my wife and I just purchased.

Should the Macbook Pro and (the Itunes preloaded on it) simply suffice as it picks up
the playlists on the external iomega HD and will play the songs the same way the emac did?

I'm are someone will correct me if I am wrong (and fill in the bits I am a bit "fuzzy" on if I am correct.)

ITunes works by using a folder where the music is and a different folder where the database is kept. The database file is where the playlists (and a bunch of other related data) are kept and organised.

You will need to move this folder from the old computer to the new one for everything to remain intact.

I'm sure someone here will jump in to explain which file you are looking for and where to find it.

You might consider setup assistant to transfer your old users to your new Mac.  You connect your Macs with an ethernet cable and start your old Mac in target disk mode.

The music is ordinarily stored under Users/(the user)/Music/iTunes/iTunes Music.
